JHS Morning Glory Clean: Perfect Transparent Drive Tones
A new Cleaner take on their popular V4 overdrive pedal
The JHS Pedals Morning Glory Clean is a new version of their popular overdrive pedal, emphasising transparent drive tones.
Morning Glory Clean
Josh Scott has just revealed his new Morning Glory Clean for JHS Pedals. It takes their Morning Glory V4 and replaces the two-position gain switch with a Clean blend knob. Josh was inspired by watching jazz guitarist Julian Lage dial in his tone at a soundcheck.
V4
JHS Pedals has tweaked the original Bluesbreaker-style circuit of the V4 to make it more usable for players who prefer a purer tone.
Clean Machine
By utilising a dual-gang system, the Clean control matches gain levels proportionally with the drive. This prevents phase issues and maintains consistent output volume regardless of the setting. This drive pedal will appeal to guitarists who enjoy transparent overdrive and want to preserve their bass frequencies.
It will also act as a clean boost with no drive when the dial is set to its maximum.
The Tone control only affects the overdrive signal path, so you don’t affect your clean signal. It still has the Drive and Volume controls, but loses the Red Remote option of the V4.
Extra Headroom
To help keep the signal clean and avoid internal clipping, the circuit uses JHS’s ±9V Dual Supply, giving you extra headroom. This pedal is also great for bass players and anyone using an amp modeling setup.
It won’t be for everyone, but it will certainly appeal to tone chasers and players who need less breakup and a purer, more transparent drive tone in their guitar rigs.
