Modular Jams for New Year’s Eve: From Ambient to Techno
In just a few hours, 2025 will be history. Here are a couple of awesome modular jams to get your New Year’s Eve party started!
Some say that most owners of modular systems don’t actually use them to make real music, let alone perform. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Not all modular enthusiasts are introverted nerds holed up in a mess of spaghetti wires and making bleep noises! I don’t know about you, but I could lose myself in these extended modular jams forever. The perfect soundtrack for a relaxed transition into the new year – or a wild party!
Modular Jams for New Year’s Eve
AB85: Ambient Modular Jams on the Moog Sound Studio
Let’s get in the mood with this dreamy ambient session by AB85 on his Moog Sound Studio (Mother-32, DFAM, Subharmonicon). Together, these semi-modular synths from Moog can really shine! By the way, AB85 made a whole album using this setup.
rimela: 5U Modular Meets TR-505

Modular jams on big 5U systems are all the more impressive. While the massive modular takes center stage, this recently-released session by rimela also includes a few pads from the Moog Muse. Interestingly, it’s all clocked and triggered by the humble Roland TR-505, the “ugly duckling” of the classic TR machines.
Modular Techno by Janky Jams
Now it’s time to party! Sessions like this one by Janky Jams are proof that a modular system can absolutely deliver pumping techno beats for a crowd. It was originally streamed for Earth Modular Society. The massive bass drum from the OhmForce Bohm module released earlier this year is sure to get the party started.
Dreamy Arpeggios by Colin Benders
And of course, one name always comes to mind when thinking of modular jams. There’s always time for a Colin Benders session! Greet the new year relaxed and in style with these dreamy arpeggios! Happy New Year!
