With SuperClassic, developer Hahmo DSP has released a software synthesizer that not only imitates the legendary sound of the Roland JP-8000 but also brings it into the present day. The programmer has reimagined the classic Supersaw sound, creating an instrument that sounds familiar yet much livelier and more organic. Four independent Supersaw slots allow you to create your own sound variations, layer by layer, far surpassing what the original hardware could achieve. Super exciting!

Hahmo DSP SuperClassic: Supersaw with Feeling, Drift, and Depth

At the heart of the SuperClassic is the SuperDrift Modulation System. It works with seven oscillators, each of which receives its own LFO modulation with slightly offset frequencies. This creates beats and micro-movements that never repeat exactly. Wow! This nonlinear drift gives the sound the analog depth that many digital instruments still lack today. Rather than static supersaw pads, it produces constantly varying sound movements reminiscent of real VCOs, which give the signal a natural liveliness. This unpredictable character is precisely what makes SuperClassic so interesting for modern sound designers.

Attention to detail is also evident in the filter section. The Jupiter-inspired filter offers six different modes ranging from gentle low-pass variants to aggressive band- and high-pass filters. The resonance curves clearly reference the classic JP design and respond musically and smoothly. The ToneShaper is particularly exciting because it controls the filter behavior bipolarly. Negative values produce warm, bass-heavy sounds, and positive settings create brighter, more focused sounds. This simple yet effective control allows you to integrate sounds into the mix precisely without the need for additional EQs.

The SuperClassic is the Perfect Synth for Big Pads and Epic Leads

Furthermore, it’s evident that Hahmo DSP has paid close attention to the practical details of the SuperClassic. The envelope generators work quickly and precisely, making them ideal for punchy plucks or rhythmic sequences. The built-in, tape-style delay and 2-band equalizer add depth to the sound without overloading it. Despite its complex structure, the synthesizer runs efficiently. Thanks to modern DSP optimization, SuperClassic can be used on older systems without any problems, making it particularly appealing to live performers.

SuperClassic can produce assertive leads, typical trance plucks, soft pads, and organic textures that bring life to the mix. The SuperDrift system opens up a whole new sonic dimension that sounds like real circuits rather than a plugin. This blend of precision, movement, and warmth evokes the finest moments of analog synths, but with significantly more control.

Renowned producers such as Darude, Super8, Marcus Schössow, and Rui Da Silva are already using the synth, showing how relevant the concept has become. SuperClassic is not just an imitation of a Supersaw synthesizer; it’s a modern interpretation of a legendary concept that sets new standards for virtual synthesis. Anyone who loves great pads, fat leads, or finely modulated ambient sounds will quickly find this synthesizer to be an integral part of their setup.
