It’s hard to predict what Universal Audio’s software development team will surprise us with next. This time, they’ve expanded on their renowned plugin that simulates all the key areas of Ocean Way Studios, including the live rooms, reverb chambers, as well as the astounding collection of classic microphones and recording equipment.

At first, you might mistake Ocean Way Studios Deluxe for a convolution reverb plugin, but there is a lot more going on. For starters, there are two primary operating modes: a re-mic mode and a reverb mode. The main difference is that in re-mic mode, you are actually replacing your original input signal, whereas the reverb mode only adds the early reflections and natural reverb.

More Information

With this in mind, the workflow of the plugin is easy to navigate, with a choice of the Focusrite 110 console in Studio A or the Dalcon console in Studio B. What’s more, there is a range of classic dynamics processors, including the LA-2A, Fairchild, 1176LN, and the dbx 160, as well as A-Type Crush and Air processors.

One of the main features is the three reverb chambers designed by Bill Putnam Sr. and two additional re-miking systems: the UREI 813 and the Altec A-2. When combined with the freedom you have to place your sounds in the live rooms and the choice of microphones, there are many ways that you can shape your sound.
