Diamond Pedals Memory Lane
You may recall that Diamond Pedals underwent a relaunch a few years ago when Solid GoldFX acquired them. Now, they have completely revamped their popular Memory Lane delay pedal, basing the design around the STM32 ARM Cortex processor.
The redesigned Diamond Memory Lane is a modern delay pedal that successfully combines the lush warmth of classic analog delays with the clarity and reliability of digital design. It offers a wide range of delays, from subtle slapback and rhythmic echoes to expansive ambient textures, all specifically voiced to sit musically behind your playing.
dBBD
At the heart of the pedal is Diamond’s unique digital Bucket Brigade Delay (dBBD) architecture. This system utilises analog companding, precision filtering, and a custom-voiced delay line to deliver what Diamond describes as a distinctly musical and dimensional sound, with up to 2.4 seconds of delay time.
Built with industrial-grade converters, warm analog circuitry, and robust protection against electrical mistakes, the Memory Lane is both versatile and road-ready. Diamond has worked diligently to make this pedal a solid contender for musicians seeking analog-style delays.
4 Modes
The four modes accessible via the Tap/Mode switch offer a versatile range of delay textures, encompassing a broad spectrum of delay effects within a single pedal.
MLjr Mode offers the classic, fixed-rate delay sound, faithful to the original Memory Lane Jr., with silent tempo changes. Vintage Mode delivers warm, saturated repeats designed to capture the authentic feel of a vintage analog delay.
Next up is the Galloping 2-Head, a distinct rhythmic pattern using two delay heads, inspired by the Counterpoint delay. Finally, there is the Ambient 3-Head, which creates expansive, cascading repeats, making it ideal for lush, layered soundscapes.
The Mod, Delay, Mix, and Feedback knobs control the primary delay functions, and the pedal features a dedicated Tap Tempo footswitch and an on/off footswitch. When held down, this tap tempo footswitch also doubles the delay. The Doubler can be set to operate in either a momentary or a latching mode.
Quarter note (green LED), Dotted eighth note (yellow LED), and Half note (red LED) are all available. You gain a lot of control from this delay, and yet the pedal’s footprint remains very compact.
The demos online all sound good and offer the pedal has a lot of great-sounding delays with a low noise floor and lots of controls. Perfect for musicians in the studio and playing live.
