beyerdynamic’s DJ 300 PRO X Headphones Let You Swap From On-Ear to Over-Ear
Go From the Gig to the Studio With the Same Set of Headphones
The latest in DJ headphones? beyerdynamic’s new DJ 300 PRO X and DJ 300 PRO X CLUB models come with two cup types, on-ear and over-ear, so you can change as you need.

Headphones built for DJs generally need one thing: to be loud. Everything else is icing on the cake. As long as you can hear them over the house sound, you’re golden. Of course, other factors like sound quality, comfort, and design are important too, but if they don’t pump, they won’t last long in your gig bag.

beyerdynamic knows headphones, so when the company releases a set of cans that say “DJ” on them, you know they’re going to pass the volume test. But, having the focus that beyerdynamic does, it may surprise you with new tweaks to the tried-and-true format.
All of this is, of course, leading up to the German outfit’s latest releases, the DJ 300 PRO X and DJ 300 PRO X CLUB headphones. Their twist? They feature a unique two-in-one system.
Two-In-One
Both of beyerdynamic’s new sets of headphones are identical (except for the look, which we’ll talk about in a minute) and have a rather surprising modular design. Instead of having to choose between on-ear or over-ear headphones, the DJ 300 PRO X models can be either, thanks to the inclusion of two sets of ear pads.
beyerdynamic suggests using the on-ear cups when gigging, and switching to over-ear for music production or pre-gig listening.
Additionally, the cups – along with headband and cable – are replaceable and can be reordered.
Swappable Cable
Along with the modular cup design, the headphones also allow you to plug in the cable on either side, left or right. This little touch ensures that the cable is kept off the cup on the ear, reducing swishing noise as well as wear and tear from coming into contact with your body. The cable locks into place with a bayonet lock and sports a strain-relieving angled connection.
Sound and Durability
Both the DJ 300 PRO X and DJ 300 PRO X CLUB offer 45mm drivers for deep bass, clear highs, and an upfront sound that remains clear even at high volumes, promises beyerdynamic.
The company also states that the headphones are durable enough to survive even the wildest of gigs, with a foldable design and supplied carrying case for extra portability.
Design Differences
As previously mentioned, the difference between the two models is cosmetic. The DJ 300 PRO X headphones are black, while the DJ 300 PRO X CLUB model changes it up with silver forks and orange CLUB lettering on the ear cups.
Still not matching your aesthetic? If you’d rather have something custom, you can head over to the beyerdynamic website and design your own cup graphic.
“The DJ scene is as diverse as the music that gets us dancing. That’s why our latest DJ headphones come in two versions – one simple and one stylishly striking,” explains Kevin Nietsch, Product Manager at beyerdynamic. “We are particularly proud of our unique 2-in-1 system, which makes the headphones versatile tools. If you want to take it a step further, you can make a personal statement with the individually printed ear cups.”
