Alesis Nitro Ultimate and Nitro Amp Pro – Problem Solved
Alesis claims to have solved the problem of authentic Hi-Hat response and e-Drum amplification with their two new products, the Nitro Ultimate Kit and Nitro Amp Pro.
My initial desire to move into the world of e-Drumming back in the 90s was fuelled mostly by size, convenience and practicality. I knew from the get-go that I would need to forfeit some aspects of acoustic drumming to benefit from volume control and MIDI connectivity.
The Problem With e-Drums
As e-Drum technology has evolved, the shortcomings have been addressed to the point where we’re at a place of almost equivalence: mesh heads, chokable cymbals, silent kits and more. But more often than not, those features are generally saved for the big, expensive kits.
The Alesis Nitro Ultimate Kit
Alesis are seeking to redress the balance and solve those problems for those on a budget, but without compromising on quality. And that’s exactly why they have launched the Nitro Ultimate kit and Nitro Amp Pro today. They claim they have created the first complete ecosystem that truly delivers on the electronic drum promise.
The headline feature of the Nitro Ultimate kit is the new Hi-Hat controller. The 10″ dual-zone pad comes with a stand-mounted controller that will work with any standard Hi-Hat stand. The benefit of this is an infinitely more realistic Hi-Hat performance. Foot splashes and authentic open/closed dynamics are now within the reach of the cost-conscious e-Drummer.

The rest of the Nitro Ultimate kit sports a deeper-shelled snare plus sturdier toms, all with mesh heads, along with a kick pad capable of dual-beater performance and two crash and one ride cymbals with choke triggers. All of which is mounted on a sturdy, four-legged aluminium rack.

The Nitro Ultimate drum module contains 36 BFD kits, with space for 16 user creations, and over 640 individual drum and percussion sounds. You also get the BFD Player software and the Dark Mahogany expansion pack thrown in, for those who prefer to play plugins. All the usual connectivity is there, along with USB, MIDI, audio and headphones.

The Alesis Nitro Amp Pro
The Nitro Amp Pro is designed to deliver superb drum amplification in a compact form factor. It kicks out 80 watts via an 8″ woofer and 2.5″ tweeter, both optimised for drums. It also features Bluetooth so you can stream your backing tracks wirelessly, and there’s a second input if a friend wants to hook up with you.

More Information
With these two products, Alesis continues to innovate and provide some superb specs for considerably less money than its competitors. The Nitro Ultimate kit retails for $899/€849.99/£719.99, whilst the Amp Pro is €149.00/£124.99.
