When it comes to guitar stands, there are three different types of people in this world. You get those who have already found a storage solution for their six-stringed friend. From here, you’ll find players who are happy to store their guitars in cases when they’re not being used. Both of these people are fine, we can be friends.
However, there is a third person in the room. The sort that just rests a guitar against the wall or couch. If this is you, then we can’t be friends. So, why not check out our list of guitar stands? With plenty to choose from, there’s something for every guitar and budget.
Wall Mounts
Kicking us off, we’ll start by looking at wall mounts. These are designed to brighten up any room, allowing your guitars to become works of art, rather than just musical instruments.
In all seriousness, wall-mounted guitar stands are a great and inexpensive way to look after your guitar. What are the pros? Your guitar is instantly accessible in your bedroom or studio, and most of this style of stand clamp at your guitar’s headstock. All protected via a snug foam covering.
Cons? Well, these require a bit of DIY to install. A couple of wall plugs and a drill will be required. Moreover, if the wall you’re using isn’t up to the job, then you could wake to a loud bang and a broken guitar in the middle of the night.
Floor Stands
Next up, something a little more traditional. Floor stands are the O.G.s of guitar stands. Again, there are advantages and disadvantages to these. For instance, it can be easy to knock your guitar over with one of these. Although if you invest in one of decent quality, they are more sturdy. Another potential downside is that not all floor stands fit all guitars. Strat player? That’s fine. Big jumbo acoustic? Perhaps not.
Your bobby basic, entry-level floor stand is the *Millenium GS-2001. You get two rubber arms to house the body of the guitar, along with a small rubber back to support the back of the instrument.
However, I’d personally go for the slightly more efficient *Millenium GS-2000. What’s the difference? You get an adjustable spine to the stand, with a U shaped head, that grips around the neck of the guitar. Also benefiting from a rubber clamp to stop the guitar falling out of the stand. For the sake of a few pounds, euros, or dollars, these could prevent the dreaded headstock delete.
Multistands
Our next look at guitar stands for every budget could offer a handy solution for many players. Do you own too many guitars? Perhaps you own a studio or practice space and you’re sick of guitars being left everywhere. It’s time to look at a multistand.
As with all music gear and accessories, there are many variations of products that essentially do the same thing. Let’s take the *Gravity Vari-G 5. Upon face value, this looks like a clothes drying rack, however, it’s actually a storage facility for up to 5 guitars! And, they even offer a 9-guitar stand.
Or, for something a little more professional, you could opt for *Harley Benton’s offering. They can offer a foldable compact multi-guitar stand, housing three guitars at the same time. What I like about this one is that it folds up like a hard case when not in use.
Bespoke Stands
As we near the end of our rundown on guitar stands, let’s up the budget a little. Thus far, all of these offerings have offered very good value for money. I wouldn’t call these a novelty, but as we’ve seen, there are other alternatives for less money.
So, what are we working with? *Gibson is proud to offer a handcrafted mahogany and maple guitar stand. Furthermore, it weighs 7kgs, which is about the same as a solid LP. I must admit, I love that the base is shaped like a Les Paul headstock.
Whereas, you could bag yourself a *Fender Wooden Hanging Stand. Suitable for most electric and acoustic models, it has scratch-resistant rubberised padding to protect the finish on your axe.
Tour Case
Finally, concluding our look at guitar stands for every budget are these tour cases. Suitable for home or studio, but they’re really designed for the stage. Allowing you to store your guitars on the tour bus.
This *Thon Tour Case offers storage for five 120mm x 51.5cm guitars and basses. All housed within a plywood box with aluminium edges and internal foam padding. Okay, so when it’s closed off, it looks like a tired Dalek, but it’ll do a good job at protecting your guitars.
