At first glance, you could mistake Granio for the latest trend in portable gaming. And it’s this kind of playful interactivity that the developers aimed for: Audio Gear Obsession says that the sampler offers “intergalactic creativity” in a portable format.

Granio has 8 GB of sample memory. You can sample via the stereo line input or the built-in microphone. The idea is to record samples wherever you are, process them with the integrated instruments and effects, and combine them to build tracks in the sequencer. Resampling is also possible. The device runs on a rechargeable battery and even has a built-in speaker for portable sampling fun.

The sequencer offers eight tracks. Up to 16 patterns can be chained together to form longer sequences. There’s also an arpeggiator. Granio can sync to external gear via MIDI.

For turning samples into complete, playable sounds, Granio offers various instruments. Four are included in the current version:

Bitcave (Full-Fledged Sampler)
Grail (Percussive Granular Synth)
Grain (Pad-Dedicated Granular Synth)
Granul8tr (Bass-Dedicated Granular Synth)

In addition, there are three integrated effects (reverb, phaser, delay). The developer plans to add more instruments and effects in future firmware updates.

Everything is controlled via 16 pads, a joystick, four rotary knobs, and various buttons that you operate with your thumb, just like a gaming controller. Audio Gear Obsession says that this makes for an intuitive and creative workflow.

Price and Availability

The Kickstarter campaign runs until June 20, 2025. At present, early bird pricing is still available at €820 plus shipping and tax. The regular Kickstarter price is €840 plus shipping and tax. There are also various bundles with cases, pouches, and sweatshirts.

The manufacturer plans to begin shipping in December 2025.
