ThorpyFX Hanami: NOS Germanium Fuzz Tones
ThorpyFX Hanami with cherry blossom design and vintage inspired fuzz tones
The new ThorpyFX Hanami Germanium Fuzz uses NOS germanium transistors and one NOS germanium diode. It is the latest fuzz pedal design from the mind of Adrian Thorpe could be one of his finest.
Hanami Germanium Fuzz
The Thorpy FX Hanami is a fantastic-looking pedal and features a laser-cut black anodised aluminium enclosure with white side panels with a lovely cherry blossoms design on them. They are a limited run, as I’m guessing the NOS components aren’t going to be around forever.
They state that as a fuzz pedal, it sits somewhere between their Boneyard and Fallout Cloud fuzz pedals. Both are already great designs, so this will, no doubt, also be one to check out for any fans of fuzz.

NOS Components
Inspired by classic fuzz but equipped with modern features, this pedal uses 4x NOS Mil Spec germanium transistors and 1x NOS germanium diode, offering smooth, evolving fuzz tones from a simple control layout.
That control layout consists of Volume, Boost, Treble, and Bass. The Treble and Bass controls are designed to be interactive, so you’ll have lots of ways to sculpt your fuzz tones.
I always find that less knobs is better with a lot of fuzz pedal designs, and keeping them simple makes for a more enjoyable experience when dialing in fuzz tones.
Transformer Isolated Input
Fuzz pedals can already be super reactive to the pickups, the guitar, and the other pedals in a signal chain.
This model has a Transformer Isolated Input to give it what ThorpyFX describes as ‘flexible board placement’, which I’m guessing makes this fuzz more usable in any position on your pedalboard.
Some of my vintage-style fuzz pedals need to be the first in a signal chain, so that can sometimes cause problems. However, this should not be an issue for the Hanami.
Price & Availability
The new ThorpyFX Hanami Germanium Fuzz retails for £329.99 and is available to order now.
As they use NOS parts, you may not want to hang around if you want one, as they can only build a finite amount of these with this specification.
