Dubnote – the new storage for your ideas? For many musicians, the Voice Memos app is a colorful collection of voice recordings made during hectic moments between sound checks, on train platforms, and during songwriting sessions. Over the years, Apple’s Voice Memos has become a simple yet effective tool. However, for many, this has long since become a stumbling block. Although ideas can be captured quickly, they often remain hidden in a sea of “Audio 001” and “New Recording 3” files – and thus go unused. This is exactly where Dubnote comes in. The new iOS tool from the British company Vochlea aims to change the way musical ideas are documented and sorted.

Dubnote Brings Order to the Creative Chaos of Musicians and Sound Collectors

Dubnote isn’t Vochlea’s first foray into musical workflows. Following the acclaimed Dubler 2 – an innovative voice-to-MIDI tool – comes an app that rethinks and clearly structures the familiar recording process. Rather than storing simple recordings, Dubnote stores every idea in an intelligent system that saves, analyzes, organizes, and tags audio.

The AI-based evaluation takes place locally on the device, ensuring that content can be managed in clear notebooks with custom covers, timestamps, and favorites-a decisive advantage for anyone who regularly works with fragmentary sketches. Very cool!

Audio Sketches Feel Like Notes

Dubnote’s approach to audio is significantly different from that of traditional voice memo apps. Once an idea has been recorded, the app recognizes the content and divides longer passages into sections that can be tagged and marked as favorites.

The automatic tempo detection is particularly interesting because it allows you to capture the rhythmic feel of a sketch, even in post-production, and make it comprehensible. The integrated transcription feature is equally exciting. It converts speech and sung lyrics into written text, which can really help the creative flow when writing lyrics or song ideas. Exciting!

Dubnote’s organization is impressive, but what ultimately makes it special is its focus on musical work and all its disorder. With Dubnote, Vochlea has created not just another recording tool, but a creative notebook with musical understanding. The developers seem to know the everyday life of producers, songwriters, and artists inside and out, with all its snippets, half-sentences, and impulsive ideas.

Organize Your Audio Memos Smarter With Dubnote

George Wright, CEO of Vochlea, sums it up: “Most people don’t use voice memo apps because they’re good; they use them because they’re available. Dubnote, on the other hand, was designed to be useful at the crucial moment with a well-thought-out user interface that inspires you to explore old ideas instead of feeling overwhelmed by them.

The app has a free version but also offers a premium level with additional features, such as exporting in various formats and advanced analysis options. If you register by July 10, Vochlea will give you lifetime free access to the premium features – a remarkable offer designed to attract creative users. You can also use it to capture and organize field recordings. I definitely have to try this out!

It takes just a couple of seconds to rename voice notes in the Apple app, so you know what each one is.

“But this new app has AI”.

Of course it does. Which will replace you as a musician and so you won’t need a new app anyway.
