Virsyn has just revealed their latest software synthesizer for iOS called AddStation. It’s based on additive synthesis and combines thousands of sine waves with unique morph sequencing.

I feel like I haven’t seen anything from Virsyn for a long time. I remember Tera and Cube from the early naughties and both of those were still receiving updates up until 2014. Since then Virsyn has focused on iOS and has released a number of synthesizer apps including ports of their earlier instruments. According to their website AddStation looks like their first product sine 2017.

AddStation combines fractal additive synthesis with sound morphing via “Additive Sequence Blocks”. Exactly what that means is hard to say because the copy on the App Store page is rather vague but apparently it will “blur the frontiers between analog and digital sonic realms” so that’s nice.

It talks about there being 4 parts with 8 Additive Sequencing Blocks. Which I can only assume are these things:

Looks and sounds very interesting indeed.

They also mention sound morphing, up to 512 partials per voice with independent AD envelopes, harmonic/inharmonic spectra, ring modulation, filtering and noise spectra. So a little bit mysterious but it certainly sounds pretty nice.

    AddStation, first product since 2017.
Lol, Robin is definitely not an iOS musician, otherwise he would have heard of the many other releases from VirSyn 😉

Sure, I saw the other releases but according the website 2017 was the last update to anything…. similar for Facebook…. Instagram has only 5 posts… so they’re not exactly getting themselves out there 😀
