Thermion PowerTrem and PowerVibe: 2 Modern Classics
Two Spanish Analog Modulation Pedals
Thermion has released the new PowerTrem and PowerVibe pedals, modern takes on two vintage effects. Offering harmonic tremolo and classic Uni-Vibe effects.
PowerTrem
First up is the Thermion PowerTrem, and this model, as the name suggests, offers classic tremolo and harmonic tremolo effects. Its modern design allows you to switch between the seamlessly between “Classic” and “Harmonic” modes.
Classic Mode: Delivers warm, traditional volume tremolo, whereas Harmonic Mode: Offers complex, organic textures through alternating high and low-frequency modulation.
The pedal is 100% analog and built in Spain, and features a simple control layout consisting of Intensity, Speed, and Level knobs, plus, the aforementioned Classic/ Harmonic switch.
Internal Wave Selector
Users can choose between sine or square waves for distinct rhythmic patterns using an internal wave seelctor switch. This could be a little awkward and I think I would have prefered this as an external control.
MSRP – €103,31 plus taxes
PowerVibe
The PowerVibe comes in the same black and orange design, but. this pedal is all about recreating the classic Uni-Vibe effect. Users can select between “Chorus” and “Vibe” modes with this compact stompbox.
Chorus Mode: Provides a fluid, spatial effect, whilst Vibe Mode: Offers a darker, more expressive tone with unique personality.
100% Analog Circuitry
This is also a completely analog design, so will please purists (hopefully) and I like the simple layout of this modern take on the much-loved vintage effect.
The simple, Speed, Depth, and Level knobs allow you to dial in your perfect sound. The switch allows you to choose between the two modes, chorus and vibe.
True Bypass
This is a True Bypass design, and again it has an option for choosing between sine or square waves, so you may need to break out your screwdriver (which is annoying) to switch between the two waveform options.
MSRP – €103,31 plus taxes
Verdict
Thermion make some interesting guitar amps and effects, I’ve previously written about their Zero compact amp in a pedal and so I was pleased to see these new modulation pedals.
They are certainly affordable, and apart from the internal waveform selection switch, I quite like these two compact modern designs.
