TC Electronic has just announced the Flashback 2 X4 Delay, an extension of the Flashback 2 into the X$ format. The Flashback 2 X4 adds MASH-capable footswitches and a new delay setting, adding some sweet features to an already well-specified delay pedal.

The new delay sound added to the 2 X4 is called Crystal, taking the total number of delay types to 10. Also new is a dual delay algorithm with two engines producing two delays, which TC says lets you indulge in “Gilmore-esque soundscapes”. Plus, it also has six TonePrint slots so you can also load six presets via a preset bank switch.
All this makes for a versatile delay pedal that you can tailor to your needs. I’m a fan of the TonePrint technology and it’s always nice to be able to load/save presets with a good delay pedal.
This is where the new version of this pedal gets even more interesting. You now have the ability to control delay effect parameters using TC’s pressure-sensitive footswitches. These ‘MASH’ switches allow you real-time parameter controls, opening up ways to ‘play’ aspects of the delay sounds live during a performance.
The pedal has stereo Ins and Outs, an external EXP pedal input and MIDI connectivity as well. Also, you can toggle between buffer or being true-bypass mode. The rear panel also houses a Kill Dry On/Off switch on the rear and a mini USB port.
All in all, this update to the pedal is surely a welcome one and makes it a very attractive proposition for anyone looking for a new versatile delay pedal. Though no official price has been announced yet.
