Softube is always cooking up something new, and this time, the Swedish developer presents a new saturation processor with circuit modelling from Empirical Labs’ renowned studio gear.
Softube Empirical Labs Professor Punch Knuckles
Professor Punch Knuckles provides three distinctive saturation modes, including Toasty, Crunchy, and Distress. While the Toasty and Crunchy modes are modelled on the preamp circuit from the Mike-E channel strip, the Distress mode comes from the Distressor’s compression circuit.
This allows you to add varying degrees of saturation or distortion to your drums, guitars, synths, and vocals, or even add some grit to your whole mix. The processing is input-dependent, so the saturation amount can be increased with the drive control and trimmed back with the output gain knob.
To position instruments precisely in the mix, you have variable high and low cut filters to set the frequency range. This filter section is also particularly useful when you’re doing parallel processing, so you can blend the wet and dry signals to perfection. In addition, you can change the character of the filters with the transformer, wide, and tape modes.
