SilverMachines has a new batch of the Orgon Systems Enigiser replica, the R-Enigiser and a new semi-modular synth with an innovative CV bus system called Monolizer.

R-Enigiser

The Orgon Systems Enigiser was not a synth I’d ever encountered. It was built in Britain in the 1990s at a time when all hands-on control was disappearing into hideously complex digital menu systems. And so its old school approach to the single-oscillator analogue monosynth probably seemed really out of place.

Anyway, a couple of years ago SilverMachines embarked on a project to recreate the Enigiser and after a lot of development, a small batch was made as the R-Enigiser. Then it all seemed to disappear. Thankfully, SilverMachines is back and has a new batch on the way and a new synth in development.

In the meantime, reading up a bit about the Enigiser, it seems that Orgon Systems are also reproducing the Enigiser. According to a Modwiggler discussion, the original designer Geoff Waterston considers any other replicas to be unauthorised.

So it looks like we might have an abundance of Enigisers or R-Enigisers to play with. Sadly Orgon Systems are not at Superbooth, whereas SilverMachines are. I don’t think I’m going to get to the bottom of the whole story anytime soon.

In a nutshell, the Enigiser is a single oscillator semi-modular synthesizer with an interesting sine wave-based sub-oscillator, three envelopes, one ADSR and two other half-envelopes, a multi-mode filter that can be switched from 6dB to every pole up to 24dB, LFO and VCA. It has a curious internal routing bus system and is CV/Gate controlled, and has absolutely no MIDI.

Monolizer

Meanwhile, SilverMachines is working on the Monolizer. It features a VCO with through-Zero FM/PWM and Ring Modulation. You can combine two waveforms, it has a noise generator and can take an external input. You have a multimode filter, loopable AD envelope and an LFO that can also be a VCO. It also has some effects with a phaser and overdrive.

Monolizer also uses a clever CV bus system that can modulate parameters via internal or external CV signals. It can feed from or provide CV sources to your Eurorack.
