Easy Sounds Drum Machine Libraries
And now long-time Yamaha supporters, Easy Sounds, have released their first two sample expansion packs for the new baby Yamaha. Taking inspiration from two classic drum machines, LD and CR expand your SEQTRAK with some classic beats.
CR, which honours the Roland CR-78, has roughly the same amount of samples and projects to get you started and give you the feel of that first-ever programmable drum machine. That machine is certainly having a bit of a renaissance, isn’t it?
Each SEQTRAK pak costs a mere €16 and is available as a download only from the Easy Sounds online store.
Void and Vista – FOLDS
Featuring samples from both male and female voices, they have captured an eclectic blend of vocalisations not normally heard in such libraries. These sounds can be layered, shaped and processed to make them even more unique.
FOLDS comes with 4.5GB of samples that populate more than 300 presets. The interactive UI has over 150 controls and features two morph layers with a multi-mode filter. There’s even a convolution processor that allows users to import their own impulse responses.
Able to work with both Kontakt and Kontakt Player, FOLDS is also NKS compatible. It does require you to download it via NI’s Native Access and is available to buy for an introductory price of £99 GBP, rising to £129 GBP when the offer finishes.
Hypersynth H-101 Card for Vintage KORG synths
However, the H-101 card represents a big advance in their technology. Instead of a 2-digit LED display, the H-101 now features a large, OLED screen that delivers a wealth of useful information.
The H-101 is specifically designed to be used in classic KORG digital synths such as the M1, Wavestation and T Series, as well as the A1 Performance Signal Processor. It can support up to 126 banks for multiple synths at a time and comes with 73 pre-loaded banks, drawing from many classic original cards. The H-101 also features 11 new banks from HyperSynth themselves.
The display is 128×128 pixels and super clear. It can be easily viewed from any angle. Better still, it auto rotates depending on the angle it is positioned in. This is really useful for synths where the slot is vertical and not horizontal.
Having such a detailed screen means you can now view patch and bank names without having to refer to a separate document. The four touch-sensitive buttons allow you to easily navigate around the banks. No battery is required and the case is a CNC manufactured metal affair and scratch resistant
If you own one of the supported KORG synths, this is an absolute must. The prices that original cards command these days mean that the H-101 represents excellent value for money. And it’s infinitely easier to use than an original card and/or SysEx device.

Blade Runner Inspired: CS-80 Sounds for Korg Modwave
Let’s be honest. The CS-80 is rightly revered as one of the greatest analog synths of all time. Maybe even the greatest synth of any kind. Whether you agree with that sentiment or not, countless sound designers have striven to recreate its unique tone on other synths.
And now the KORG modwave gets a chance to have a go with this new FREE soundbank from Ian Dixon. Ian has a website and YouTube channel called ‘The Digital Lifestyle’ where he covers all sorts of music tech. There are interviews, tutorials and, as featured here, some great sound sets to download.
This particular collection contains performances and programs that draw inspiration from the mighty CS-80. As with most banks like this, Vangelis’ Blade Runner features heavily as an inspiration and Ian aims to capture these using the KORG modwave.
