PRS has decided to offer its PRS SE P20E Powder Blue as a limited edition, with less than 1000 available worldwide. If you fancy a blue acoustic for the 2020 holiday season or thinking about a special Christmas gift for a guitarist in your life, this compact acoustic guitar is worth checking out.
SE P20E Powder Blue
The SE P20E is a parlor-sized acoustic guitar and that met with a positive reaction from players and reviewers worldwide when released earlier this year. PRS uses hybrid “X”/Classical bracing to achieve a big sound for what’s actually a smaller-bodied instrument. Here’s a statement from PRS about what the company is trying to achieve with this new model:
“The SE parlor acoustics have been received very well by players at all levels, and from their inception, we thought this would be a good platform to have a bit of fun with colour. From Davy Knowles to PRS Pulse Artist Sophia Gripari to thousands of players at home, these guitars offer a new and unique tool for writing, home-recording, and getting lost in playing for hours without ending up with a sore strumming shoulder.” PRS’ COO Jack Higginbotham
Fishman GT1 pickup system
The E part of the P20E name means it comes with an onboard Fishman GT1 pickup system, making it easy to amplify. That makes it a good all rounder for players wishing to record and play live. It consists of an under-saddle pickup and soundhole mounted preamp, which judging by the demo sounds available seems to capture the sound of the P20E fairly well. The construction consists of a a solid mahogany top, ebony fretboard and bridge, a bone nut and saddle and a set of those PRS bird inlays. The headstock reflects the classic PRS shape.
These PRS SE Parlor acoustics come with a nice gig bag and are factory strung with gauge 12-53 strings. If this model tickles your fancy, head to your nearest authorised PRS dealer or to our affiliate partner Thomann below. This model is a limited edition, so it could sell out rapidly. Personally, I’m not sure about the Powder Blue colour, but it is growing on me the more I look at it. I would like to see one in the flesh, as photos aren’t always accurate in reflecting the hues of pastel colours. The SE P20 does sound really nice, though. See and hear one of them in action in the demo video below.
