Martin Guitar and Shawn Mendes: From a Vintage Martin Found in Brooklyn to Two New Signature Guitars, the 000-28 and 000-10E
The 000-28 as a Limited Edition, the 000-10E as a More Affordable Road Series Model
Martin Guitar just introduced two new signature instruments for Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes: the limited 000-28 and the Road Series 000-10E. Both draw inspiration from a small-bodied Martin from the 1920s that’s been part of Mendes’ songwriting process for years.
Martin Guitar 000-28 and 000-10E Shawn Mendes: Everything on the New Signature Models
From a Vintage Find in Brooklyn to a Signature Series
Martin and Mendes go back a while, their first collaboration, the 000JR-10E Shawn Mendes, arrived in 2022. This new partnership expands that story with two full-size 000 guitars: a highly limited model inspired by Mendes’ own stage guitar, and a more accessible, performance-ready acoustic-electric.
It all started with a vintage Martin 0-42 that Mendes found in a guitar shop in Brooklyn. Compact body, pyramid bridge, distinctive pickguard, slotted headstock, all of it caught his attention immediately. Martin later built an ornate stage guitar based on that instrument, which became the foundation for both new models.
The 000-28: Limited to 88 Guitars
Only 88 units of the 000-28 Shawn Mendes exist worldwide. Solid East Indian rosewood back and sides pair with a solid spruce top featuring antique toner, bold herringbone trim, and Golden Era scalloped X-bracing. If you’re interested, don’t wait too long on this one.
Vintage-inspired details define the look: a modern pyramid-style ebony bridge, a uniquely shaped faux tortoise pickguard, and a slotted headstock with gold Waverly side-mount tuners. The ebony fingerboard carries Mendes’ own mother-of-pearl eagle inlay, a symbol he associates with freedom and creative renewal. Each guitar ships with a molded hardshell case and a signed, individually numbered interior label.
The 000-10E: Road Series Built With Sustainable Tonewoods
The 000-10E Shawn Mendes targets a wider range of players, built entirely from FSC-certified tonewoods as part of the Road Series lineup. Solid sapele back and sides paired with a solid spruce top deliver a warm, balanced voice, while scalloped X-bracing adds resonance and projection.
You’ll find the same distinctive faux tortoise pickguard here too, along with a subtler eagle inlay, this time crafted from FSC-certified sapele, plus the first straightline pyramid bridge ever offered in the Road Series. A Performing Artist neck with a high-performance taper keeps things modern and playable, while built-in Martin E1 electronics with a tuner make it stage and studio ready, backed by a softshell case.
A Songwriting Guitar Built for Range
Both guitars are meant to deliver exactly what Mendes considers essential in a songwriting guitar: the ability to move effortlessly between quiet fingerpicking and full, open strumming. “Martin guitars are great for a singer-songwriter because you can take them to ten, or they can sit with you at two,” he says. “They’re really a companion for a singer-songwriter.”
Giving Back: Supporting the Shawn Mendes Foundation
Alongside the release of both models, Martin Guitar is supporting the Shawn Mendes Foundation, which backs young changemakers and their organizations. The foundation operates as a sponsored program of the Social Impact Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.
Bottom Line
Two signature models instead of just one, one a rare collector’s piece, the other a genuine daily workhorse. That’s exactly the approach Mendes himself pushed for: more than a single option. The 000-28 will likely appeal most to collectors and dedicated fans, while the 000-10E, with its FSC-certified woods and Road Series price point, should be within reach for a lot more players. If intimate, vintage-inspired 000-style guitars are your thing, both of these are worth a closer look.
