Lewitt LCT 1040: heavy-duty tube/FET condenser mic with remote control
Austrian microphone maker Lewitt announced the LCT 1040 microphone system. The combination of a rugged tube/FET condenser microphone, external power supply, remote control and matching accessories makes for an impressive offering. I’d say this is something of a technical peak for condenser microphones. That said, the ‘gamer’ aesthetic is not for everyone.

Lewitt says the LCT 1040 is the outcome of a long development process which involved ‘an extensive list of renowned industry professionals’. That said, the LCT 1040 microphone system contains a tube/FET microphone, power supply, detachable remote control unit, and matching accessories. The remote control unit connects over 3-pin XLR and features the following controls:
- Tube – choose between Clear, Warm, Dark, and Saturated tube voicings.
- Filter – stepped low-cut filter switch (Linear, 40 Hz, 80 Hz, 120 Hz).
- Attenuation – stepped pad control (0dB, -6dB, -12dB, -24dB).
- Circuit – blend between the microphone’s FET and Tube circuits to dial-in the right combination of punch and warmth.
- Pattern – choose from 4 polar patterns along with a switch for Default / Reverse.
The remote control is an appropriate means for exploring the 1040’s possibilities from the convenience of a good listening spot. Moreover, having this kind of flexibility at your disposal means the Lewitt 1040 can be tailored for a wide variety of recording scenarios before you reach for another mic. It must have taken engineering competence and diligent feedback to put together and fine-tune all that circuitry.

As for the aesthetics, the 1040 and its accessories come in a little too strong compared to the understated looks of iconic studio mics. But the ruggedness is clearly there, that thing is built like a tank. The same goes for the shockmount, which features carbon fiber parts for extra toughness. Likewise, the included magnetic pop filter comes with a double-screen design.

The LCT 1040 will be available from February 16 2022, priced at GBP 2999 / EUR 3499 / USD 3499. The microphone system ships in a rugged transport case which carries the microphone, PSU, remote control, shock mount, mic mount, magnetic pop filter, and cables.
