Drum Synthesis Meet Sampling
Knobula Drum Farm lets you ‘grow’ your own drums! With 16 synthesis models and on-the-fly sampling, this new drum module looks like a happy accident machine!
Knobula Drum Farm
Ahead of Superbooth 26, Knobula has announced the new Drum Farm module. A sound design powerhouse and inspiring performance machine all in one, Drum Farm combines drum synthesis, effects, and sampling.
At the heart of the module is a drum synth with 16 different models, including various kick drums, snares, and hi-hats, as well as a bunch of TR-808- and 909-inspired sounds and percussion instruments. In addition to the decay time, there are two adjustable parameters per model (X and Y).
The built-in effects engine delivers 16 effects, ranging from reverb, delay, bit crushing, and distortion to more unusual effects like Pitch Dive, Octave Warp, and Multitude, which produces eight random variations of the input signal. The reverb and delay effects have an ‘always on’ mode, allowing them to stay active even if another effect is selected.
What makes Drum Farm unique is the built-in sampler, which runs in the background and continuously records the sounds you create into 16 sequential audio buffers. Think of it as an Undo queue – never lose those happy accidents again! Alternatively, you can sample manually or even use an external trigger to start sampling. There’s also an audio input, so you can record signals from elsewhere in your rack, as well. Sample banks and even complete snapshots of the entire module can be saved to an SD card.
For playing back samples, Drum Farm offers two sample players, each with its own trigger input. You can layer these with the drum synth and effects and resample the resulting sound at any time. This lets you ‘grow’ unique sounds by layering various drum models, samples, and/or effects. In addition to the drum synth and the two players, the currently active preview sample can be triggered individually, allowing you to access up to four different sounds.
For external control, the module offers three bipolar CV inputs, which can be assigned to any knob or switch on the panel.
With its unique combination of drum synthesis, effects, and on-the-fly resampling, Drum Farm looks like loads of fun!
