HK Audio has introduced the POLAR 10 column PA system. Designed to combine easy setup and simple handling with a well-balanced sound, the POLAR 10 includes a subwoofer, column speaker array, and built-in mixer. At a price of just under 700 Euros, it’s an interesting new option for musicians, entertainers, DJs, and presenters.
HK Audio POLAR 10
The HK Audio POLAR 10 features a 10-inch subwoofer with an extra long voice coil. HK Audio claims that it delivers a bigger bottom end than most column systems. The column array consists of six 3-inch midrange drivers and a 1-inch constant directivity horn. The system includes a 2000 watt amplifier and a 24-bit DSP for a consistent audio image over the entire frequency range (38 Hz to 20 kHz). HK Audio states a coverage angle of 120 degrees and an “outstanding resistance to feedback”. You can combine two systems to form a stereo setup.
The column separates into two elements for easy portability. The elements connect to each other and the subwoofer using HK Audio’s new E.A.S. connect system, which requires no cables. The lower column element is a spacer and may be omitted for a shorter stack. This can improve sound projection when the system is used on a raised stage.
The integrated mixer offers two mic/line inputs, one instrument input, and one aux input. The latter receives its signal from a pair of RCA connectors or via Bluetooth 5.0 streaming. There’s a 3-band master EQ, and you can choose from music, voice and DJ sound profiles and save your settings in five presets. Contrary to some other compact column PA systems like the Yamaha Stagepas 1K and Mackie SRM-Flex, the POLAR 10 unfortunately doesn’t offer a reverb effect, which is a pity considering the system’s primary applications.
The HK Audio POLAR 10 comes with gig bags for the two column elements, and a cover for the subwoofer. The entire system weighs just under 27 kg / 60 lbs.
