Cockos is offering free Reaper licenses valid until the end of June to everybody. This means that you can use the DAW at home while you’re working remotely. It’s also an opportunity to try out Reaper during your time in isolation, and learn the ins and outs of the software.
Reaper temporary license
Only a few days after Avid announced temporary licenses for users working remotely, Cockos follows suit with a similar offer. If you’re currently working from home, you can download a temporary license for Reaper, which is valid until the end of June. Unlike Avid, however, Cockos hasn’t restricted the offer to licensed owners of Reaper. Everybody is invited to download the license and use Reaper until the end of June. This means that it’s not only a way to continue working in isolation, but also an excellent opportunity to check out the highly customizable DAW if you haven’t tried it yet.
Reaper’s trial period is pretty generous as it is: even in normal times, you can download and use the software for 60 days until you’re expected to purchase it. So one could argue that these temporary licenses aren’t a big deal, as they extend the regular trial period by only a few weeks. But in these troubled times, anything that helps to cope with self-isolation and uncertainty is very much appreciated!
The process is really simple: All you need to do is copy the license code from the text file Cockos has provided on its website, and paste it into Reaper. No user account required, no questions asked. That’s awesome, and it’s a stark contrast to Avid’s complicated policy. Cockos clearly sees it as an opportunity to win over users of other DAWs. So go ahead and download the license, and have some fun with Reaper while you’re self-isolating!
