FreePlay LIVE, HOME, and GO: portable PA & Bluetooth speakers from Mackie

Mackie has announced a range of new Bluetooth speakers for smaller live performances, room audio and portable audio. Taking design and technological cues from the manufacturer’s concert systems, the FreePlay series comprises the FreePlay LIVE, HOME, and GO versions.
The HOME and GO have a dual passive radiator design for extended bass and low distortion even at high volume levels. Thanks to Bluetooth, two speakers can be linked for Stereo sound or multi-room audio. They can also be used as portable power banks for your mobile devices as they have USB Charge Out ports.
Mackie also fashioned an Android and iOS app that lets you control linking options for FreePlay HOME and FreePlay GO (switch between Stereo or Zone and swap L/R outputs) or adjust levels, EQ, reverb, and other effects for the FreePlay LIVE speaker.
The FreePlay LIVE speaker might be of particular interest for musicians gigging without a PA, for it delivers 150W of total power, a 6-inch woofer, and a pair of tweeters — as well as dual jack/XLR combo inputs for mics and instruments, a pair of balanced monitor outs, and a stereo aux input. That’s contained within a reasonable 4kg (8.8lb). It runs off a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery, so is a truly mobile solution. Mackie claims up to 15 hours battery life, that will, of course, depend on usage.
Overall, the FreePlay speakers look more than decent and come with all the functionality you’d expect from modern portable speakers. However, price and availability information for the FreePlay series is not available yet. We are reaching out to Mackie and will update the post when we get a response.
