Flame Instruments Mäander-M: The Wavetable Synth With an Analog Filterbank Is Back, Baby!

Still mourning the discontinuation of the Mäander? It’s your lucky day, as it’s back as the Flame Instruments Mäander-M – and the wavetable powerhouse is now Eurorack-ready.
Flame Instruments Mäander-M
Superbooth25 is almost here, and the advance news is coming fast and thick. Here’s another one to ingest: Eurorack champs Flame Instruments will be debuting the Mäander-M, a Eurorack-ready remake of its now-discontinued fan-favorite synth, Mäander.

If you’re not familiar with the original, it was a tabletop four-voice wavetable synthesizer with FM, an analog filterbank (yes, a bank), and a sequencer. The new M-appended Mäander-M features all of the power of the original, also including a white noise generator, unison mode, two multi-wave LFOs, two ADSR envelopes, a VCA and a sequencer.
Flame Instruments Mäander-M: Filterbank
So, about that filterbank. Where most synths make do with one or maybe two filter circuits, Mäander-M has an entire bank of them. There are eight different morphing types, including lowpass, lowpass/bandpass, lowpass/highpass, highpass, three different bandpass modes, and notch. There’s a fader for each of the eight frequencies and – oh man – it takes external input for processing outside audio.
Flame Instruments Mäander-M: Sequencer and More
The sequencer in the forthcoming Mäander-M is worth mentioning too, as it’s polyphonic like the synth itself. You get a single polyphonic note track with up to four chords possible, plus 14 mono tracks for the audio input, white noise and filter channels. There’s also memory and patches.

Other functionality includes an arpeggiator, keyboard scaler, direct oscillator output, and stereo noise output.
And, while the 56HP Mäander-M is Eurorack-ready, it arrives pre-mounted in a powered wooden skiff so it can ostensibly function on its own.
Flame Instruments Mäander-M: Price and Availability
Flame Instruments Mäander-M looks like it will be a powerful and fun synth voice.
The manufacturer is shooting for an August or September 2025 release at a €888 price point.
