The new Hammertone series pedals from Fender offers players nine new, original and affordable effects, taking the company’s effect pedal range in a new direction. The pedals have slimmed down, anodised aluminium enclosures, with coloured knobs to denote the effect.

Fender Hammertone pedals

The new Fender Hammertone effects pedal range consists of nine effects: Distortion, Overdrive, Delay, Reverb, Fuzz, Metal, Chorus, Flanger and Space Delay.

Funky Knobs

Each pedal has true-bypass switching, top-mounted jacks and witch-hat-style chrome-rimmed control knobs in funky colours. Each effect also has a different coloured set of controls, with matching LED on/off indicator lights. All the Hammertone pedals were designed in-house by Fender’s effects guru Stan Cotey, therefore I am expecting some quality tones from this new range.

Hammertone Distortion

The orange-knobbed Hammertone Distortion has an active two-band bass and treble EQ setup, along with level and gain controls. Fender reckons this one will do a light drive to a heavy crunch, so it could be a nice core effect for those looking for dirt. Plus that active EQ should allow plenty of tone sculpting possibilities.

RRP – USD 79

Hammertone Overdrive

The new Hammertone Overdrive offers a pre-mid boost controls, along with level, gain and tone. Again, this red-knobbed stompbox is an original design, so it could well be worth checking out if you enjoy a decent drive pedal.

RRP – USD 79

Hammertone Delay

The Hammertone Delay uses a digital circuit with up to 950ms of delay time on offer, with the ability to add some modulation via a dedicated switch. Then, the second toggle activates another delay type. With controls for delay mix, time and feedback, this could be a good all-round effect for anyone after a touch of delay in their rig.

Hammertone Reverb

The Hammertone Reverb has three reverb algorithms: hall, room, and a modulated reverb. You can select them with the Type toggle switch. You get controls for reverb mix and timedamp, and another toggle switch that adjusts the tonal character of the reverb.

Hammertone Fuzz

With controls for Fuzz, Tone and Level, and a switch for Octave, the new Hammertone Fuzz pedal looks to be vintaged voiced. And those purple (haze) knobs hint towards a certain famous guitarist…

According to the official Fender statement, it has “horn-like sustain used on the formative records of rock ’n’ roll history”. So we may have a retro ’60s voicing with this one, and therefore, on my radar straight away, as I do love me a fuzz box!

Hammertone Metal

With four black knobs, the Hammertone Metal is all about higher gain drive tones. With controls for Level, Distortion, and a two-band active bass and treble EQ, this one is all about getting you filthy gain and tight tones.

Hammertone Chorus

Next up is the Hammertone Chorus. This pedal consists of Level, Depth and Rate controls, plus two switches labelled Type and Tone. I own the Fender Bubbler Chorus, so I’m hoping this one has a similar voicing, as that is a nice chorus effect.

RRP – USD 99

Hammertone Space Delay

This one has controls for Time, Feedback and Level, and a pair of dedicated Pattern and Mod toggle switches. The new Space Delay is aimed at spacey, dreamy, analogue-style repeats. Apparently, it can also self oscillate, so one for all you ambient sonic voyagers about there.

Hammertone Flanger

Finally, the Hammertone Flanger has you covered for all things flanging. And as far as I am aware, it is the only flanger effect currently in any of Fender’s effects pedal ranges. You get controls for Depth, Manual and Rate, and Resonance and Type switches.

RRP – USD 99
