Epiphone J-45 and Hummingbird: 3 Legendary Acoustic Guitars, Inspired by Gibson!
Dreadnoughts with and without cutaways for affordable prices!
Epiphone is updating its range of new acoustic guitars today, having already reissued some great vintage acoustic guitars in the summer of 2025. The Epiphone J-45, Hummingbird, and L-00 come in vintage-themed colors, with the usual “Inspired by Gibson” craftsmanship. Let’s take a look!
Epiphone Hummingbird Standard
Gibson launched the first Hummingbird models in 1960, its first square-shoulder dreadnought model. This beautiful guitar is one of the best-known acoustic guitars made in the USA. Today, Epiphone releases the Hummingbird Standard as part of its “Inspired by Gibson” collection, a revised edition that is closely based on the original but available at a more affordable price.

What’s rather unusual at this price point and very noteworthy is that the Hummingbird Standard is made entirely from solid tonewood. Solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides: this wood combination defines the Hummingbird’s typical timeless sound. Furthermore, the one-piece mahogany neck (C profile) comes with a rosewood fretboard with 20 frets and the iconic mother-of-pearl split parallelogram inlays.

The Hummingbird models also feature a rosewood bridge with a reverse belly design and a bone saddle. With regard to the electronics, these acoustics feature a Fishman system with an S-Core undersaddle pickup and Presys VT preamp. For controls, volume and tone can be adjusted using dials mounted on the sound hole, which are barely visible from the stage. Next up: the Epiphone J-45!

Epiphone J-45 Standard
Since its introduction in 1942, the J-45 has been the best-selling acoustic guitar in Gibson’s history. This legendary acoustic guitar is now being reissued as the Epiphone J-45 Standard from the “Inspired by Gibson” collection.

The tonewoods follow a timeless recipe: solid mahogany for the back and sides, solid spruce for the top, plus a one-piece mahogany neck with a comfortable rounded C profile. Plus, the rosewood fretboard features mother-of-pearl dot inlays and comes with 20 frets and a bone nut.
This Epiphone J-45 Standard also offers some visual treats. The 60s-style Kalamazoo headstock is equipped with Grover Rotomatic tuners. In addition, the rosewood belly-up bridge and the tortoiseshell pickguard in the traditional teardrop shape round off the classic design.

For electronics, a Fishman Presys VT system with an undersaddle pickup and preamp provides the electronic amplification here, too.
Thomann also has three models that you should definitely check out:

Epiphone L-00 Standard
The design of the Epiphone L-00 Standard dates back to the early 1930s and has long been considered the benchmark for small-format acoustic guitars. In terms of tone woods, the parlor acoustic features solid mahogany for the back and sides, solid spruce for the top, and a one-piece mahogany neck with a rounded C profile. Its rosewood fretboard with 19 frets and dot inlays, the bone nut, and these Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners make this acoustic guitar a real visual treat. And the vintage sunburst finish looks great too.

Despite its compact body, the L-00 Standard delivers a balanced, warm sound that is particularly suitable for fingerpicking and strumming in genres such as folk, blues, and Americana. And the built-in Fishman system, with an S-Core pickup and a Presys VT preamp, makes it stage-ready. A gig bag is also included.
