Push/pull, humbuckers, and an exciting finish!

With the Fatoumata Diawara SG, Epiphone presents one of the most colorful signature guitars to date in Gibson’s otherwise often rather traditional roster. The multiple Grammy-nominated singer and musician from Mali has already collaborated with Damon Albarn, Paul McCartney, and Herbie Hancock, so it’s about time for a signature guitar!
Fatoumata Diawara: Jazz Legend from Mali
The Epiphone Fatoumata Diawara SG is not just another signature model — it’s the most beautiful SG yet! Visually, the SG makes a statement. But let’s start with the artist behind the guitar. Fatoumata Diawara is one of the most important voices in modern African and global music. She has performed at international jazz festivals for many years and collaborated with many renowned artists.
In addition to Gorillaz and Paul McCartney, the Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist from Mali also collaborated with Milky Chance on the song “Flicker in the Dark” in 2023. She combines tradition with contemporary style, and her signature guitar reflects exactly that.
Epiphone Fatoumata Diawara SG
Epiphone developed the Fatoumata Diawara SG based on the Muse SG model, and Diawara added her own personal touch. The guitar comes with a mahogany body with striking graphics on the top, a set mahogany neck with a custom C profile, and a bound rosewood fretboard with 22 medium jumbo frets and trapezoid inlays.

The gold-colored hardware matches the guitar’s overall striking appearance. In addition, the SG comes with a LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge, a stop bar tailpiece, and locking tuners, a Graph Tech saddle ensures stable tuning. Even the details are color-coordinated from the pickup rings to the knobs to the switch caps.
Humbuckers and Push/Pull
In terms of sound, the Fatoumata Diawara SG is designed for flexibility. Its two Alnico Classic PRO humbuckers offer everything from warm, clean sounds to powerful, driven chords. In classic SG style, there are individual volume controls for each pickup, each with push/pull functionality for coil splitting, two tone controls, and a 3-way switch.

The two volume controls differ in terms of their push/pull functionality. One offers standard switching, while the second offers a phase switch for phase-shifted sounds when both pickups are active.
