Developer Denise is after something special again with the release of a new multi-band dynamics processor plug-in. It’s called Dragon Fire and the concept involves a compressor controlled by a dynamic 6-band graphic equalizer. There’s also a saturation stage for added “analog character” and several options that you probably won’t find in most stereo compressors.
Denise Dragon Fire Compressor plug-in
Dragon Fire is a new mixing and mastering tool from developer Denise. Namely, a dynamics processor. And, as we have come to expect from the manufacturer, it is anything but ordinary. Several components come together here that have been combined in a single plug-in: compressor, expander, equalizer, and saturator. The individual sections are combined in an unusual way. The 6-band equalizer works dynamically and lets you shape individual frequency bands with different settings.
The “push” and “pull” algorithm known from Denise’s Godmode plug-in is also used here. With the sidechain feature, you can “release” certain elements of a mix which exist in specific frequency ranges. The individual parameters that Dragon Fire offers let you imitate almost any type of hardware compressor (vintage, transparent, opto, VCA). You can even mix the characteristics of different types. At the end of the effects chain, there’s a clipper module to provide additional saturation and “dirt”.
It is very nice that you can also use the effect in single-band mode. This means that this tool is also available as a “normal stereo compressor” with all the advantages of the plug-in.
