While a Pultec EQ plugin is hardly something out of left field, it’s certainly a move in a new direction for D16 Group. Until now, the Polish developer has remained in the lane of classic synth recreations and beat production effects, so the Pulsatec represents something fresh in the area of vintage studio gear.

The first thing you’ll notice about Pulsatec is that it’s not a faithful EQP-1A clone. Rather than replicating all the controls of the legendary EQ, D16 has taken things in a more modern direction.

This makes sense because of the sheer volume of Pultec EQ plugins available on the market, so with the added utility features, you can expect to use the Pulsatec more frequently.

More Information

Like the EQP-1A, the Pulsatec low-frequency band has the same four points (20, 30, 60, and 100 Hz) with the familiar boost and attenuation controls that enable the famous Pultec low-end trick.

However, there are two bands with variable bandwidth that can be set to either boost or attenuate. Each of these bands has seven selectable frequency points, the first at 200, 300, 500, 700, 1,000, 1,500, and 2,000 Hz, while the second band has 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12, and 16 kHz.

Then, the high-frequency attenuation band has the same configuration as the EQP-1A, with selectable frequencies at 5, 10, and 20 kHz. The addition of the real-time analyzer is certainly a win for those of us who haven’t been mixing with Pultecs for most of our lives.
