Cherry Audio Trident Mk.III – 3 Instruments, 1 Huge Sound
Cherry Audio continue to put out high-quality, sought-after plugin recreations with the Trident Mk.III, bringing back this much-loved synth with extra features galore!
Once again, Cherry Audio have plucked another less well-known synth out of relative obscurity and brought it back to life and then some! KORG’s Trident first appeared in 1981, combining three distinct synth engines (hence the name!) into one big synth.

A year later, KORG released the Mk.II with some minor improvements and updates. But, like many other synths at that time, it fell under the shadow of things like Roland’s Jupiter 8 and Sequential Circuits Prophet 5. And then, a year later, Yamaha released the DX7 and the synth world changed forever.
The Trident was big, expensive and most definitely a case of wrong time, wrong place. It ended up looking and feeling dated, despite its obvious charms and capabilities. Those who knew would treasure it but it quickly vanished from a rapidly changing marketplace.

Cherry Audio Trident Mk.III
This kind of story makes the Trident a prime candidate for the Cherry Audio treatment! Where other plugin developers fear to tread, the bold team at Cherry Audio wades in and resurrects these forgotten classics for all of us to enjoy.
Every aspect of the original is here, with its three distinct Synthesizer, Brass and Strings sections, all beautifully rendered by Mal Meehan. Anyone familiar with the Trident will immediately find their way around. But, as you will expect, Cherry Audio have expanded and enhanced the original for today’s audience.

More Prongs in the Trident’s Fork
Now we have a raft of powerful effects, a Motion panel that allows you to assign key splits and layers quickly and easily and a transposable 32-step polyphonic sequencer, plus two advanced, customisable arpeggiators.
Each synth section can be played on its own as well as together, and the sound of the Trident Mk.III is huge and immense. There’s a fantastic amount of modulation capabilities, as well as the ability to respond to polyphonic aftertouch.
