The Realistic Concertmate MG-1 was hidden gem of a synthesizer sold in Radio Shack stores in the 1980s. Cheery Audio has resurrected it as the Surrealistic MG-1 Plus and it’s yours over Thanksgiving for free!

Cherry Audio says you can recreate the sounds of everything from a piccolo to a tuba to a helicopter with uncanny accuracy. And why wouldn’t you want to do that?

The Concertmate MG-1 was one of those home keyboard synths that was sold through electronics stores rather than music shops. It was manufactured by Moog and designed by Paul Schreiber who was employed by Tandy at the time. These days Paul can be found designing extraordinary Eurorack modules for his own company Synthesis Technology. So this is no crappy little synth, it has some real talent behind it.

The Surrealistic MG-1 Plus has been accurately modelled with dual oscillator monophonic plus a polyphonic oscillator bank. It has a super fat Moog style ladder 24dB ladder filter, ring modulation, LFO and different note priority modes. It comes with over 130 presets, octave switches and is fully automatable.
