New X-Amps

Below is a brief description of each of the new amp models from BOSS:

  • X-Ultra: Inspired by a legendary British stack amp, X-Ultra takes things to the next level with a modern multi-stage gain circuit powered by MDP. This innovative technology provides intelligent control over clipping in each gain stage, resulting in an extended dynamic response that surpasses traditional analog designs. Experience unparalleled clarity, articulation, and sustain that breathe new life into your high-gain riffs.
  • X-Optima: Finding the sweet spot between powerful chords and soaring leads can be challenging with many high-gain amps. X-Optima solves this problem with a revolutionary new gain algorithm that harnesses the full potential of MDP’s adaptive frequency shaping. Achieve perfectly defined rhythm tones that cut through the mix and rich lead voices that ‘sing with harmonic complexity’.
  • X-Titan: For metal guitarists who demand bone-crushing brutality, X-Titan delivers. This amp model utilizes MDP to carve out razor-sharp low-end tones while preserving the warmth and fullness of the higher registers. Whether detuned for maximum impact or wielding a seven or eight-string beast, X-Titan provides the perfect foundation for aggressive metal mayhem.

This certainly looks like this update is aimed at high-gain, articulate amp tones. I’m guessing these amps will appeal to players who use extended-range and down-tuned guitars.

It is all quite aggressive and modern across the three new amp models, which will appeal to many guitarists looking for modern high-gain, yet articulate amp models.

But wait, there is more

The GT-1000 and GT-1000CORE update doesn’t stop at high-gain amps. Bass players get six new bass preamps, offering what BOSS describes as a diverse palette of tonal options for all genres.

Plus two new drive effects expand the FX section, and a new tuner display mode provides enhanced visibility for precise tuning. The update also includes under-the-hood improvements for a smoother, more streamlined user experience.

This latest update is a free download for existing users and it will certainly make the units more flexible for many users seeking high-gain amp models.

As always follow the instructions carefully and back up your unit before you run the update.

Boss GT-1000 3.2 update: delay algorithms, expanded speaker IRs and more

[February 1, 2022] This new Boss 3.2 update brings a host of new features for its GT-1000 and GT-1000Core multi-effects pedals. These include 11 mastering FX algorithms and five delay patches.

Update Version 3.2

The Boss GT-1000 Version 3.2 update adds a lot of useful features, including five new delays based on the company’s SDE-3000, DD-20 Standard and DD-20 Analog, plus Warm and Glitch from the DD-8. Then you have eleven Mastering FX to help shape your overall tone.

Official Boss 3.2 Update List

  • Mastering FX—Eleven different Mastering FX allow you to shape the overall sound at the line output for different styles and playing situations.
  • New Master Delay Types—Five delay algorithms from the historic BOSS/Roland library have been added: SDE-3000, DD-20 Standard and DD-20 Analog, and Warm and Glitch from the DD-8.
  • More Onboard Speaker IRs for Recording—The speaker IR selection in Recording mode has been greatly expanded with the ability to use “Original” speaker types from different amplifiers.
  • More Mic Types—A new RBN121 mic type and three mic blend types have been added to the Speaker Simulator block.
  • EV-1-WL Support—Use the EV-1-WL Wireless MIDI Expression Pedal for cable-free effects control via Bluetooth.

New IRs and Microphones

I like that it also has new “Original” Impulse Responses for many of the built-in amplifiers, plus the RBN121 mic type and the addition of three mic blend types. All this makes for a more flexible setup when you are building custom amps and tones.

Bluetooth

Finally, you now get EV-1-WL Wireless MIDI Expression Pedal control via Bluetooth, perfect for busy stages when you want to avoid cables. Overall, this sounds like another nice free update, as we have already seen Headrush update its firmware today as well. Looks like 2022 is bringing some nice freebies to the owners of these floor pedal systems, and that can only be a good thing.
