The Pro VLA III from ART builds on a long history while remaining down-to-earth. For many years, the Pro VLA has been a staple in countless studios. Not because of its spectacular features, but because of its reliable sound. The Pro VLA III continues this approach consistently. This means you get a compressor that can be used without much familiarization.

Both Tube Sound and Solid-state are Possible!

Technically, the ART Pro VLA III is an optical, two-channel compressor with genuine tube circuitry. Both channels can be used separately or coupled for stereo processing. The control process is musical and does not harshly interfere with the signal. Individual tracks, subgroups, and complete mixes all benefit equally. Therefore, the Pro VLA III is suitable for many tasks in the studio.

More Information

A new addition is the switchable signal path, which allows for flexible adjustment of the character. The Voice switch lets you toggle between an analog tube sound and a more neutral solid-state path. This enables the Pro VLA III to adapt to various sources more effectively. Soft vocals, dynamic drums, and complete mixes can be processed more precisely. The sound remains controlled and does not lose any substance.

It’s a Compressor for Everyday Use

Further development is evident in the details as well. The extended ratio range enables very subtle compression for precise dynamic adjustments. This is particularly useful when mastering or slightly compressing sums. At the same time, the Pro VLA III offers more headroom and lower background noise. In stereo mode, both channels work together more evenly than ever before.

The operation follows a classic concept and remains straightforward. The threshold, attack, release, and output level can be set directly. Displays for input and output levels and gain reduction provide constant reference. Each channel can be bypassed individually for easy comparison. The Pro VLA III thus encourages thoughtful work instead of forcing quick results.

Classic Operation Without Distractions

The Pro VLA III is also practical when it comes to connections. Balanced XLR and jack sockets cover professional and semi-professional setups. A switch adjusts the level for different studio environments. The internal power supply simplifies rack installation. In daily operation, everything appears well-thought-out and stable.

In terms of sound, the Pro VLA III strikes a balance between control and character. The optical circuit responds smoothly, avoiding aggressive artifacts. The built-in tube adds warmth without obscuring details. For transparent results, the solid-state signal path can be used. These features make the new compressor very versatile.

Price, Availability, and Conclusion

The new compressor from ART is aimed at producers and sound engineers looking for a reliable tool. It doesn’t replace specialized, high-end compressors; rather, it complements them in a meaningful way. This role has made it popular for years. For you, the Pro VLA III is simply a reliable studio compressor.

    Damn.
Still no SC Filter. What a bummer. Would make it an instant buy. But no SC Filter in 20026 is a knockout argument for the mixbus+masterbus for me
