The Aim Audio INSPIRE and ESSENCE large diaphragm condenser microphones are now available for order from the Thomann store.
Aim Audio’s innovative microphone designs are crafted in Berlin, Germany, delivering high-quality recording solutions to home and pro studio users alike. The difference is that these microphones provide a switchable output stage that lets you choose between transformer-balanced and electronically balanced outputs.
Aim Audio INSPIRE and ESSENCE
The INSPIRE is the flagship of the Aim Audio mic range, and it ships in a foam-lined carrying case with the ORBIT pop filter and shockmount kit. With five different polar patterns, the INSPIRE can be used in a wide range of different recording situations, including capturing vocals and instruments in close, ambient, or stereo overhead configurations.
The INSPIRE has a range of uniquely versatile features, including a reversible pickup switch that allows the microphone to pick up from the back. What’s more, there are two pad settings (-10 and -20 dB) for high SPL sound sources, and two high-pass filter modes (80 and 110 Hz) for avoiding low-end rumble.
For those who don’t require multipattern capabilities, the ESSENCE is a slightly scaled-down version of the design with the same 1-inch capsule with its 6 6-micron gold-sputtered Mylar diaphragm. While the ESSENCE doesn’t have the reversible pickup mode or come with the ORBIT filter and mount kit, it still offers the same recording quality and the choice of transformer or electronic outputs.
Overall, Aim Audio has done a fair bit of R&D work with these mics to ensure that they are offering something slightly different to most of the other microphones in this class. While most engineers choose mics for their sonic character, rather than functionality, it will be interesting to hear how the ESSENCE compares to the Austrian Audio OC18 or the Neumann TLM 103.
