Ableton Live 13 LEAK: A Funky New Step Sequencer and Multiple Devices!
Is the latest version of Ableton Live on its way?
Videos of Ableton Live 13, which is still unreleased at this point, have leaked on YouTube, giving us some insight into some of the new features.
It’s been a MINUTE since Live 12 was officially launched- almost three years, in fact. And since this is usually the time frame that new versions of Live are released, it’s safe to say that the version 13 release could indeed be imminent.

As shown by Hugo Vinagre in this YouTube video, the workflow for loading up instruments and effects has been improved with an intuitive dialogue box that lets you search via text entry and shows your most recently used devices and presets. Although this could be seen as a minor improvement, it sure does speed up the workflow to keep your ideas flowing.
Another new addition is a drum synth device that can be added to each of the Drum Rack pads. This gives you access to nine different drum sound types, ranging from kicks and snares to rimshots and toms, each represented by a tiny icon depicting a piece of the drum kit. As you select each one, you can choose between sounds from classic drum machines and shape the individual sounds with a selection of controls.
To add to the creative immediacy, there is also a new step sequencer that lets you program drums without a piano roll. What’s more, you can use steps or variable envelope data to control velocity, offset, note length, note repeat, pitch, and probability, and there is an automation capture function that stores your parameter movements and lets you edit and fine-tune the curves afterwards.
As you browse through the different engines in the drum synth device, you’ll see that they aren’t all drum machine sounds. In fact, the cymbal voice has a roaring FM synth engine that you can use to shape textured sounds and effects. In addition, the video also demonstrates a new clipper, an upgraded limiter, and a transient shaper, which will all be welcomed by electronic music producers.

Is there any logical and understandable answer as to why they put this into version 13 now in 2026, and not into the first one? There are few things more amusing than this. When are they planning to include Melodyne? In 12 years?
