Boss Katana First Thoughts
The Katana line from Boss has been very popular with many guitarists, and Boss has sold many of them over the years. Over 10 years, they have sold somewhere in the region of 1.5 million of them worldwide, which shows how much musicians like them.
However, they were missing a compact model, which could be used for home and maybe small, intimate gigs.
Now, the Katana-25 could fill that void, as it is affordable and still packs in 60 built-in effects and more.

6 Amps & 60 FX
The new Katana-25 has six amp models built-in, and users can select from 60 onboard Boss effects, which is already a lot to play with. It also has an FX loop and built-in Bluetooth, with a 25-watt power rating and an 8-inch speaker.
Making it very versatile and flexible for such a small combo. I can see it being great for use at home or maybe small gigs and rehearsals, etc. The built in amp models handle, cleans through to crunch and higher gain, so it has plenty of useful tones on offer without the effects.
Home Use
It has power scaling, so the output can be put down to 0.5 watts, which is great for use when playing at home. Bluetooth allows you to stream backing tracks to the amp, and the Boss Tone Studio app allows players to customise the effects and amp settings in more detail.
It also includes a headphone out for silent use and a USB-C port that can be used as an audio interface for recording.
The amp’s basic controls include gain, volume, and a three-band EQ, plus a built-in tuner. SO it covers all the basics and more.

Verdict
I’m guessing they will sell truckloads of these, as it has a lot of useful features, and the sales figures I mentioned earlier prove that musicians trust the Katana range to deliver the sounds they want.
I would have liked an audio input (as Bluetooth is not always an option), but apart from that, I think it looks like a good starter amp for players.
Availability
The Boss Katana-25 is available at Thomann, and Sweetwater.
