PRS Unveils the New Tekton Series: The Perfect Guitars for Metal Modelers?
The most modern metal guitar from PRS ever!
With the new Tekton series, PRS is going all in for metal axes. All four new models come with PRS’ proprietary Stylus humbuckers, which is among the best when paired with a modeler. In terms of price, both the Tekton and Tekton T go for 2,999 euros, while the “Floyd” and the seven-string SVN models cost 3,099 euros.
PRS New Guitars:
First Impression
For a company that prides itself in traditional guitar design, PRS is taking quite a leap with Tekton. No bird inlays, unusual colors, flat 16″ radius, wider string spacing, Stylus humbuckers: this is a clear attempt to go after the likes of Ibanez, Jackson, and ESP.
And from the visuals alone, Tekton seems to be going in the right direction. There is still the slightly tame body shape and headstock that you either love or hate (some metal players might find these axes not evil enough), but on the other hand, you get PRS’ craftsmanship. Which is among the best in the industry.
Thin body, bolt-on neck, Stylus humbuckers
The new series is divided into four models, each with six colors. There is Tekton, Tekton T, “Floyd” and the seven-string models called SVN. All new models share a newly-developed body shape, which, PRS says, is among the thinnest it has ever used in standard production. Each guitar also featurs a bolt-on maple neck (Moden “D” prodile), an ebony fretboard, 24 jumbo stainless-stell frets, offset dots and Luminly side dots.

Then, there are the pickups. All models in the series come with two Stylus humbuckers. These new pickups are said to be especially neutral-sounding, which makes them perfect to pair with modelers and amp captures. Since this is pretty much the norm in most modern metal bands these days, it goes to show how close PRS has been paying attention to developments in the guitar world.

For controls, you get a three-way blade switch, a volume and a tone knob, which comes with push/pull functionality for coil-splitting both pickups.
Comparing the four models

In essence, the standard Tekton* and the Tekton T* models are the same guitar. The T models, however, come with a two-point tremolo with a steel plate and brass saddles instead of the hardtail bridge from the standard models. Both series feature six stunning finishes with a high-gloss nitro top: Slate Blue, Imperial Topaz, Black Tourmaline, Violet Tourmaline, Bloodstone Red, and Fuchsia Aura.
The “Floyd” models are the most unique ones in the family. These come with an alder body and a recessesed Floy Rose 1000 Series bridge. Here, you get the colors Black, Purple Royale, Multi-Metal Flake, White Holoflake, Hot Pink and Neon Green. Find the Tekton “Floyd” at Thomann*.
And finally, PRS new modern metal axe series includes a seven-string model, the SVN. These come with a massive 26.5″ scale and a dedicated Stylus SVN pickup set in the same color variants as the other three models. Check out the Tekton SVN at Thomann*.
