The new Gibson Victory Floyd Rose is a rebirth of the model first launched in the 1980s, recently revived and now updated with a Floyd Rose locking tremolo system and new aesthetics. Will this new direction be a hit or a miss for shred guitar fans?

Victory Floyd Rose

We saw a stoptail bridge version in 2024, and now they are re-launching it once more with a new shredder guitar vibe.

With the revamped Victory Floyd Rose, it looks like Gibson wants a slice of the Superstrat market. They have swapped out the original Firebird-esque headstock of the early ’80s version for something more modern-looking (Explorer-shaped essentially) and given it a Floyd Rose.

Factor in the non-Gibson standard 25.5-inch scale length, and this Victory becomes something else entirely. Gibson states this will help with drop tunings, which I guess is true, but hardly a selling point in 2026, where baritone and extended scale length guitars are now pretty common.

Shred Specs

Apart from the obvious ‘double locking bridge’ system, these models also feature specifications for shred, including 24 medium jumbo frets, acrylic dot inlays, and a 10–16-inch compound-radius ebony fretboard. The SlimTaper profile mahogany set neck is more traditional Gibson, but that longer scale length I mentioned above will make these feel different.

The mahogany body is fitted with an AA figured maple cap and comes in three finish options on launch: Translucent Ebony Burst, Deep Ocean Burst, and Iguana Burst.

Gibson ’80s Tribute

They come equipped with a pair of Gibson ’80s Tribute zebra open-coil humbuckers, with push-pull pots on both the Volume and Tone controls. Players can split the humbuckers and isolate either the inner or outer coils, unlocking more useful tones. Offering both glassy, Strat-inspired bite and the iconic midrange roar of a classic Gibson.

Hardware includes a set of Grover Mini Rotomatic tuners and the double-locking Floyd Rose tremolo system.

Pricing & Verdict

At $2799/£2399, these Gibson Victory Floyd Rose guitars aren’t cheap and will face stiff competition from other guitar brands already known for building high-performance guitars.

I’m going to say that I am not a fan of the look or the price point, but they may be great playing guitars. I just wouldn’t want one for myself at that price. It will be interesting to see what the YouTube guitar reviewers say about this latest iteration of the Victory.

We will update you as soon as they become available at Thomann.
