Make Noise and Tom Erbe, the developer behind Soundhack, have built something genuinely interesting together: the Plexiphon, a stereo space effect module for Eurorack that refuses to be pinned down to a single effect type. It morphs continuously between reverb and echo, and the most interesting territory is exactly the space in between. The Plexiphon makes its public debut at Superbooth 2026. We can’t wait to hear it!

Make Noise Plexiphon: Everything You Need to Know About the New Stereo Space Effect for Eurorack

What Is the Plexiphon?

Make Noise describes the Plexiphon as a “modeless spatial texturizer,” and that description holds up well. The module isn’t simply another reverb and it isn’t a classic echo either. It moves fluidly between both worlds, with the most interesting results appearing right in the overlap between the two. That might sound abstract, but in the context of Eurorack patches it makes immediate sense: no switching between algorithms, no mode-based thinking, just a continuous sonic space that responds fully to voltage control.

The core of the module is the Plexus control, which simultaneously modulates the number of feedback paths in the algorithm and their entanglement with each other. The Size parameter determines the temporal relationship between those paths, functioning either like a delay time or a room size depending on where the Plexus sits. It’s an elegant solution that unifies both worlds in a single parameter. Really well thought out.

Parameters and Stereo Features

Diffuse and Color offer control over texture and timbre over time, from soft to sharp and from bright to dark. The stereo parameters are where things get particularly interesting. Couple determines how isolated or intermingled the left and right channels are, ranging from true dual mono to fully interlaced stereo. Skew goes a step further, offering simultaneous inverse or tandem control of the left and right paths across the Plexus, Size, and Color parameters at the same time. The stereo movement possibilities this opens up are well beyond what most traditional effects can offer.

The Send gate input determines whether and when the input signal gets fed into the Plexus, which makes classic dub echo techniques immediately accessible. The CV output provides an envelope follower signal for feeding back into the Plexiphon’s own controls or elsewhere in the system. A well-considered detail that makes the module much more deeply patchable.

Verdict

The Make Noise Plexiphon is one of the more interesting Eurorack modules announced at Superbooth 2026. The collaboration between Make Noise and Tom Erbe already set a high bar with the Erbe-Verb, and the Plexiphon sounds like a natural continuation of that philosophy. No mode switching, no compromise between reverb and echo, just a module that treats space as a continuous, fully modulatable parameter. Very much looking forward to hearing what people do with this one.

Technical Details and Availability

The Plexiphon is built from entirely new code by Tom Erbe, written specifically for Make Noise’s newest digital hardware platform. That’s not a small detail: this isn’t an adapted algorithm but a genuine fresh start on new hardware. 16 HP, maximum depth of 34 mm including power cable, 240 mA at +12V and 5 mA at -12V.
