Fender Releases 75th Anniversary Telecaster: Honoring the Iconic Guitar With Beautiful New Models!
Honoring the legacy of the 'twang'
With the 75th Anniversary Telecaster, Fender celebrates the history of its second iconic electric guitar while incorporating modern updates into its timeless design. The anniversary collection features five new Telecaster models that perfectly embody the Telecaster’s essence. Let’s take a closer look at them.
75th Anniversary Telecaster: How It All Began
Introduced in 1950 as the Broadcaster, the first iteration of the Telecaster was quickly renamed after a trademark dispute with Gretsch. The original Telecaster featured a solid slab body, a bolt-on maple neck, two simple single-coils, and hardware that could be assembled, replaced, or repaired without fuss.
In a market still dominated by fragile hollowbodies, the Telecaster was loud, durable, and (most notably) consistent. That quickly made it the working musician’s tool, especially in country, where players like James Burton turned its cutting bridge pickup into a defining sound.
By the mid ’50s, the Telecaster had already crossed genre lines. Quite a few early rock ’n’ roll players picked it up for its attack and clarity, while blues and later rock guitarists celebrated it for its raw sound. Unlike the Stratocaster, which evolved visually and ergonomically, the Tele has remained largely unchanged, and that has become part of its identity.
From Bruce Springsteen to Joe Strummer to many modern indie and session players, the appeal is the same: it does exactly what it says on the tin. So, this is where the 75th Anniversary Telecaster models come in.
75th Anniversary American Ultra II Telecaster
Let’s begin with the most premium of the 75th Anniversary Telecaster, the American Ultra II.
