The D Mini is finally here with three analog oscillators, a sequencer, and that lovely filter, all in a very tiny package.

Behringer D Mini

Back in 2022, Behringer announced the Model D Soul, a tiny, Volca-like take on its excellent Model D analog synth. Our Robin wrote about it and mused on how much of a synth’s functionality you could lose before it became not really a synth anymore. Behringer said the mini synth was ready to go at the time, and they were just waiting for chips. And then… nothing.

Well, it looks like the wait is over. Bombastic Behringer demo video in 3… 2… 1…

Behringer D Mini Stats

The D Mini, as it now appears to be called, showed up at Behringer’s booth at NAMM. It appears to be exactly the same as the Model D Soul, just with a new name and differently colored keys (which would bring it in line with the other entries in the Mini line).

We don’t have an official announcement from Behringer so nothing here is confirmed, but it looks like the previously announced specs will be the same. They are:

  • Based on the classic Minimoog from the 1970s (and also the Model D, I would reckon)
  • Three VCOs with five selectable waveforms, including saw, triangle, shark, square and pulse
  • Lowpass filter with resonance
  • LFO with four different waveforms connected to the pitch and filter
  • VCA with Moog-style ADS envelope with release on/off switch
  • Filter envelope knob
  • White and pink noise with volume control
  • 16-step motion sequencer with eight memory slots
  • 27 touch keys
  • USB connector (looks like C?)
  • MIDI

From looking at the picture, it also has a voice mode knob with settings for poly, unison, octave, fifths, ring and ring poly. I imagine this adjusts how the three octaves are allocated, given that there’s only one VCO knob for all three. There’s also an octave footage dial that goes from a clicky 32’ all the way up to a dog-bothering 1’.

Behringer D Mini Pricing and Availability

Given that the Model D came out in 2018 and this was originally announced in 2022, I’m honestly surprised it’s taken Behringer this long to get the D Mini out. That’s assuming it actually is coming out – this is all based on photos sent in from our team on the ground. But better late than never for this mini D energy.

We don’t have a confirmed price, but this series generally sells for $99. No release date as of yet.

This one’s not for me ( nor the JT-2, I’m monosynthed out at this point) but I absolutely love this mini form factor and price! Awaiting a mini DX-7 clone…
