DW Drums releases Pure Walnut Kit and True-Cast Bronze Snare: Legendary Looks and Tones
Walnut shells in the Collectors Series for the first time!
It doesn’t get much higher-end than this: DW Drums has released the luxurious Pure Walnut kit in their Collectors Series. While we’ve seen walnut shells in other DW series, it’s the first time on their highest series. Plus, they’re showing the mighty True-Cast Bronze Snare, a highly limited snare with a sandcast Bell Bronze shell.
DW True-Cast Bronze Snare
And since this is by far the more collectible and unusual of the two DW releases, let’s start with the True-Cast Bronze Snare. DW has designed this beast with none other than DW artist Dave Elitch (Mars Volta, The 1975, Miley Cyrus, M83). Together, they’ve come up with a snare with a sandcast bronze bell shell and a contoured shape.

That means its thickness varies from 5 mm at the top and bottom edges to 3 mm at the center. In addition, the snare comes with a patented 2-piece brass mini lug with dual lug receivers and True-Cast counter hoops. That means you’ll get granular details for tuning this beast to your liking.
This limited edition also comes with a brass Mini MAG throw-off with a matching butt plate, True-Pitch tension rods, and 20-strand True-Tone snare wires. You also get a matching DW MFG flight case made by Calzone. This is a truly limited release, as only 100 of these snares will ever be made. Let’s take a look at the Pure Walnut drum kit!
DW Collectors Series Pure Walnut Kit: A DW Dream
DW’s second announcement for NAMM 2026 is equally special and exciting. They are introducing a Pure Walnut Kit featuring 100% walnut shells, which produce a very different and unique sound from more common tonewoods such as maple or birch.

These shells have been produced using DW’s proprietary VLT (Vertical Low Timbre) technology, which, according to DW, produces a full-bodied sound with relatively short sustain. Each Pure Walnut Kit is handcrafted in the California Custom Shop and finished by hand, offering the very best that DW has to offer.
However, the new Pure Walnut Kit offers more than just premium craftsmanship and professional sonics. It looks luxurious and distinctive, too! The finish, which goes from natural walnut to quick ebony burst, is a real beauty. Combined with the all-black hardware, it’s a real head-turner.
