Slate Digital ML-2A: Small-Diaphragm Mic Pair for VMS

The new Slate Digital ML-2A is a matched pair of flexible small-diaphragm modeling microphones designed for the Slate Virtual Microphone System.
Slate Digital is a brand respected throughout the industry for innovative recording tools, especially in the area of analogue modeling, be it microphones or plugin recreations of classic outboard gear.

The ML-2A system is comprised of high-quality small-diaphragm condenser mics with fixed cardioid pickup patterns and a max SPL of 156 dB. Basic controls also include -20 dB pad and low-cut filter (80 Hz) switches, so you can deal with high-SPL sources and remove any rumble from the signal on the way in.
The ML-2A ships as a matched stereo pair, calibrated at the factory and optimized for the neutrality and accuracy required for microphone modeling. Of course, you can use them as you would traditional condenser mics, but when using the VMS software, you get 27 different mic models and low-latency monitoring.
Besides the mics, the ML-2A also ships with a stereo spacing bar for accurate stereo mic techniques. This helps you get the right distance and angles when you are using AB spaced pair, ORTF, or XY mic techniques, which means you get the most consistent stereo imaging possible.
What’s interesting about the VMS software is that it enables you to choose two different microphone models for creating unique sounds. Also, the collection of mic models gives you the ability to access the character of a range of large-diaphragm mics too, so you can use the ML-2A for a wider range of applications than you would expect from the average pencil mic.
