Eventide Temperance Pro: Advanced Modal Reverb
The Eventide Temperance Pro plugin is a fully-featured modal reverb processor with an integrated sequencer and MIDI control capabilities.
Expanding on the basic structure laid down with the Lite version, Temperance Pro adds to the concept with a range of more precise reverb controls and a wider selection of modal spaces, allowing you to use the plugin in music production or sound design applications.
Eventide Temperance Pro
The idea behind Temperance is to enable musicians and producers to use reverb as an extension of any melodic instrument, including vocals, guitars, synths, and more. To enhance and shape the texture of your sounds musically, Temperance Pro is equipped with Target Select controls that let you choose to add early or late reflections (or both) to your Tempered notes.
Meanwhile, the note width control determines the number of adjacent modes that are added to each Tempered note. With lower values, you’ll get more precise musical phrasing, while higher values affect more of the reverb for more dramatic results. To control the way the reverb interacts with the input signal, there are three different note selection modes.
With Manual Mode, you get straightforward piano-style selection with quick access to intervals, scales, modes, and chords. With Sequence Mode, you can program chord progressions that your selected Tempered notes will follow with a beat grid for precise timing adjustments. There’s also a MIDI Mode that allows Temperance Pro to receive real-time MIDI input from a keyboard controller.
Here, the plugin almost becomes a standalone instrument, and it encourages experimentation, particularly when dealing with sounds that didn’t have a very pronounced harmonic component. Overall, with 29 different spaces and three modal controls to shape each reverb, Temperance Pro is an exciting prospect, particularly for pop and electronic music production.

Temperance impresses me on so many levels. The notion that you can recreate a room from thousands of individual resonances, complete with delays, flutters, and other nuances intact, just blows my mind. The engineer in me can’t figure out how Eventide got them to cooperate so perfectly and how they managed to squeeze them all into a real-time effect. The musician in me giggles at
the thought of the sheer number of tiny “instruments” playing in concert and what novel sound avenues they could explore.Pete Bischoff, the Product Owner
