More Information

Transient Pepper by JoEunsoo isn’t your everyday transient designer. Rather than shaping the attack and decay of the signal itself, it generates a noise layer that grooves with the transients. Depending on the amount of noise you dial in, it can create a subtle boost or add an extra layer of sound.

The Transient Detector section offers a Threshold control and a bandpass filter for zooming in on the transients you want. There’s also a Listen button that helps pinpoint the desired frequencies. Then, you can use the Attack and Release knobs to shape the noise envelope, much like a typical transient shaper. The Noise Gain knob controls the amount of generated noise that’s added to your signal.

In addition, Transient Pepper offers Tone and Mid/Side controls for shaping the sound of the noise, as well as a Dry/Wet knob for dialing in the desired amount of effect.

So here’s the catch: you’ll need to be quick, as Transient Pepper is only free until November 1st, 2025. After that, the plugin will cost $14. So grab it for free while it lasts!

Transient Pepper is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.

More Information

Filter4Tongue Free by NUSofting is a free filter bank and “hyper wah” plugin designed for creative sound shaping. It offers four bandpass filters (aka ‘tongues’) arranged in two serial pairs in parallel routing. Each pair offers frequency, spread, Q, and gain controls for tuning the bands. Crank up the gain to drive the filters into tasty saturation. In addition, there’s an internal pink noise source.

Filter4Tongue Free also includes a modulator section consisting of an envelope follower with a loop mode. This can be routed to four targets simultaneously, which allows for some pretty wacky modulated filter effects.

Filter4Tongue Free is available for free with the option to make a donation to support the developer. The plugin is currently only available for Windows in VST2/VST3 formats.

More Information

A few weeks ago, Minimal Audio released the powerful Evoke vocal effects plugin. I assume that the free Formant plugin uses an algorithm pulled from Evoke, but I could be wrong.

Formant lets you shift the formants and apply a tilt EQ simultaneously using an X/Y pad. This makes it really easy to dial in the desired vocal sound with the perfect tonal balance. Great for modern vocal effects!

Formant is available for macOS and Windows in VST3, AU, and AAX formats.
