Witch Pig Starscraper: Pitch-Shifting Reverse Delay
Whenever Witch Pig releases a new free plugin, you can be sure it ventures off the beaten path. I’m also a big fan of the developer’s creative use of motion graphics. His latest creation is Starscraper, a pitch-shifting reverse delay that adds a unique character and spatial depth to any sound.
The reverse delay syncs to your song tempo and offers feedback and mix controls for blending the effect with your input signal. The standout feature is that you can offset the pitches of the left and right channels to create anything from subtle shimmer to chaotic dissonance.
Judging by the demo video, Starscraper sounds fantastic on lead guitars, but also works great for cinematic textures and more experimental sound design.
Starscraper is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats. To get the plugin for free, the developer asks that you subscribe to his YouTube channel.
Haven Audio CODA: The New Way to Achieve a Punchy Mix?
CODA by Haven Audio is a free mix enhancer designed to add punch and glue, but without traditional tools such as compressors or limiters. Instead, it uses “phase-smearing” technology. The developer says that this new approach avoids squashing the dynamics of your tracks, thereby maintaining their quality.
According to Haven Audio, phase-smearing works by increasing phase information at specific frequencies. This method enhances the transients of your signals without adding extra gain, preserving the original headroom. CODA works especially well on kicks, 808s, and drums.
CODA is available for macOS and Windows in VST, VST, and AU formats.
Lotus Sound Audio Silver Fox MK2: Free VCA Compressor Plugin
Lotus Sound Audio has updated the popular Silver Fox VCA compressor. The developer says that the new version offers even more punch, character, and control than before, thanks to “enhanced VCA-style behavior for bolder compression”. Silver Fox MK2 is great as a glue compressor on the drum bus, but also works very well on vocals or even complete mixes.
In addition, the new version offers improved transient handling, new attack and release curves for a more musical response, a refined GUI, and new presets.
Silver Fox MK2 is available for macOS and Windows in VST3 and AU formats.
