Beetronics Bee Bee Dee: Beautiful BBD Delay

The Beetronics Bee Bee Dee is arguably the prettiest pedal on the market, but does this analog delay also deliver impressive sound? We take a closer look at its inner workings.
Beetronics Bee Bee Dee
The Beetronics Bee Bee Dee combines a true analog delay with modern features and offers three unique modes. Featuring BBD (Bucket Brigade Device) technology, it utilises innovative digital control while remaining completely analog in the audio path. The build quality is exemplary, and the design is (as always) visually stunning.
Three Delay Modes
The Beetronics Bee Bee Dee offers three modes. Classic Mode delivers the signature BBD tone with smooth sine modulation, creating classic delay sounds. LoFi Mode creates darker repeats, supported by an irregular LFO that alters both the delay time and the tone.
The echoes drift between bright and dark sounds. In Pitch Mode, however, the echoes change in pitch, creating harmonies, rhythmic patterns, and surprising textures.
Controls
The Bee Bee Dee pedal is controlled by the Tone, Delay Time, Mix, Activity, and Depth knobs. You can switch between three delay modes using a 3-way mini-switch.
Another mini-switch lets you toggle the expression modes, which include Tap Tempo, 2X (which halves the delay time and can shift the pitch up or down an octave), and Mod.
The soft-click footswitch controls the bypass and expression, and the pedal is a true bypass design.
As always with Beetronics, this pedal is visually on another level compared to many of the other pedals on the market. All this work and attention to detail do add to the final price point, and so it isn’t the cheapest analog delay on the market.
