The Berlin manufacturer, Heinz Electrodynamic Design, has been creating high-quality loudspeakers for 10 years now, and has built a serious reputation among artists, music producers, and mix engineers. However, behind the brand is Adam Audio founder Klaus Heinz, an engineer with over 40 years of experience in loudspeaker design.

It’s not often that a speaker manufacturer decides to move away from DSP-based design, but Heinz draws from experience with Air Motion Transformer (AMT) technology from back in the 1970s. There are 5-inch and 7-inch models, and the new A-CORE series uses many of the same components found in the HEDD MK2 and Tower Mains monitor series, but there are a few aspects that make it unique.

More Information

The high-frequency driver is a hand-built Air Motion Transformer tweeter that delivers super-fast transient reproduction and an immaculate level of sonic detail. The woofers are built with a honeycomb compound material that produces incredible midrange clarity as well as a well-defined low-frequency range.

The A-Core series monitors are powered by dual 100W Class D-ICE power amplifiers with a 2200 Hz crossover system, and a frequency response that goes down to 43 Hz. On the rear panel, you’ll find connections for balanced (XLR combo) and unbalanced (RCA) signals, as well as high and low shelving filters for optimizing the monitors for your acoustic environment.

Overall, the beauty of the A-CORE series lies in its simplicity. No calibration system or firmware updates, just plug them in and get busy creating and mixing music. Also, as the starting unit price for the TYPE 05 A-CORE is €200 less than the MK2, it places them far more within reach of the average musician, which is exciting.

Pricing and Availability:

The HEDD A-CORE series is currently available for pre-order from Thomann, with the TYPE 05 A-CORE shipping within a month, and the TYPE 07 A-CORE following in the coming months.
