Universal Audio LUNA 1.9 Update adds AI-Assisted Features
The freemium DAW for macOS and Windows is getting better!
[15 July, 2025] In the latest Universal Audio LUNA 1.9 Update, you get AI-powered features like Voice Control, Instrument Detection, and Smart Tempo tools.
All about Universal Audio LUNA:
Universal Audio LUNA is a freemium DAW platform that encourages you to use classic recording workflows, with console and tape emulation, and a platform for the wide world of UAD plugins. Now in version 1.9, the free update adds features designed to help the LUNA become a more powerful and intuitive creative tool, rather than just a tape machine.
Universal Audio LUNA 1.9 Update
With Voice Control, you can now use voice commands to hit record, so you can punch in at a specific part of your song without moving from your performance position. Having a DAW that operates like Siri or Alexa could open up a range of possibilities in the future, too, especially if you consider how it could be harnessed to perform creative tasks.
Another intuitive feature called Instrument Detection takes a reading of an input signal on any channel and identifies the type of instrument you’re about to record. What’s more, it names and colour-codes the track automatically, so you can spend less time on administrative tasks and more time recording.
In addition, LUNA 1.9 has added a range of Smart Tempo tools, including Tempo Listen, which matches the project tempo and metronome to the audio being analyzed, while Tempo Detection gives you a reading of any audio you drop onto your timeline.

Meanwhile, with Tempo Extraction, you can build a detailed tempo map from recorded tracks or stems that takes into account any variations in meter. This way, you can always stay true to the original feel of your songs.
We believe that the best audio tools can ‘disappear,’ and feel like they are simply a part of the creative process. We think the new AI-powered tools in LUNA 1.9 start to make it feel like a behind-the-scenes music recording partner, not just a DAW. Ultimately, we always look forward to hearing what our users think.

Universal Audio LUNA 1.8 Update includes a Range of Improvements and Fixes
The Universal Audio LUNA 1.8 Update brings in new track-bouncing features, as well as track presets, browser tabs, and more fixes.
Universal Audio LUNA 1.8 Update
Now in LUNA 1.8, you can bounce tracks and buses by selecting the option in the Track menu or you can simply right-click the desired track name or selection range on the timeline.
Any bounced tracks are removed from the tracks list by default, but you can reactivate them with the “Restore Bounce Source” command. In addition, any track can be saved as a preset that you can recall at any time with the “Assign Preset” command.
The browser tabs feature makes it easy to navigate and assign presets and plugins to any track with convenient drag-and-drop functionality. Meanwhile, a Browser Toggle Button has been added for easy access, and there are fixes to issues previously experienced with the “Find Tracks” command, UAD-2 plugin preset lists, and the problems exporting or freezing tracks.
